Virtual Fixit Clinic 558 from Lund/Malmö Sweden
We saw:
-Lindsay from Hurstpierpoint West Sussex UK: Sewing Machine Husqvarna Classica 100 I have an old Husqvarna Classica 100 electric sewing machine that my mother bought me, I think I was in my late teens/early twenties (and I am in my sixties now). I used it a bit to make baby clothes for my nephew (now 35) but haven’t used it since. Then when coronavirus struck I thought I would get it out and try to make face masks. But the first time I tried to use it there was a loud bang and loads of smoke. When the smoke cleared my husband had a quick look and saw that a capacitor was burnt out so he ordered one on line and fitted it, but the machine still does not work. I just wondered if anyone could have a look and see if they thought it would be reparable and what it would cost to repair as I remember it as a lovely machine and it would be great not to have to do all my sewing by hand. https://youtu.be/pkVVupFkGMI?t=98
-Marylouise From Berkeley California US vacuum cleaner Hoover WindTunnel WindTunnel 2010 or earlier No suction at the base. Cleared out all the areas https://youtu.be/pkVVupFkGMI?t=438

-Eider From Superior Colorado US: Eider Toaster Oster TSSTTRJB0C Doesn't turn on/clamp/work. I don't know, i dumpstered it. It's certainly in its current state at all times. I have looked up videos but i'm scared. https://youtu.be/pkVVupFkGMI?t=1369 (and extended troubleshooting later on in main Zoom room at https://youtu.be/pkVVupFkGMI?t=2487)
-Sandeep From Melbourne Victoria Australia: Sandeep (St. James Rhythm sewing machine from last Virtual Fixit Clinic) is back with a Smart LED TV LG 42LB5820 2016 Doesn't power up. Found that one of the fuse is broken. Need help with soldering it. https://youtu.be/pkVVupFkGMI?t=1618 and report back to main room at https://youtu.be/pkVVupFkGMI?t=2487

20:05:02 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : But does it still run?
20:08:03 From Marylouise Lambert : I have a different model of this same company's machine. SOmetimes the power doesn't go thru the hord from the pedel to the machine. I have to monkey around with the power cord
20:08:16 From Dany (Belgium) : Is there an on/off switch? Are there any lights on the machine?
20:08:36 From Lindsey (Hurstpierpoint Sussex) : The light also dows not work
20:08:51 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : If the light doesn’t work, maybe a fuse blew?
20:09:32 From Dany (Belgium) : Can you remove all filters and retry?
20:09:43 From Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden to Noga(Privately) : Hi Noga,

20:10:25 From chris in berkeley CA : test speed controller by rigging a light bulb across the connection from controller to motor. also still don't know, did the smoke come out of the controller or out of the motor. need to open controller tolook for signs of burning
20:11:10 From Noga to Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden(Privately) : oh, I think you are confused with the problem. mine is a striking taoster. no smoke
20:11:11 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : [sewing machine] the smoke came out of the blown capacitor.
20:11:16 From chris in berkeley CA : vacuum clner - check for suction at various openings in system (i.e. disconnect points of hose)
20:12:02 From Peter Mui Fixit Clinic Berkeley CA : plumbing snake works great too for clearing clogs in vacuum hoses
20:12:25 From chris in berkeley CA : sewing machine - if cap was shorted it may have burnt motor windings :(
20:13:15 From chris in berkeley CA : toaster - can open to visually inspect heater element
20:13:56 From Dany (Belgium) : toaster: If that thermofuse is blown, the lights should not turn on
20:14:27 From chris in berkeley CA : she has a continuity tester - can measure across thermal safety devices
20:14:41 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : toaster: if the thermostat is blown, the ‘heating’ light won’t come on I think
20:15:17 From chris in berkeley CA : @oliviier - depends how it is wired
20:16:27 From Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden to Noga(Privately) : oops, send to whole group :)

20:18:24 From Mark in Boulder CO : Do we have a soldering video?
20:19:07 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : By the way, lithium cells are quite fragile, so you should first practice on something else
20:19:10 From Will : We should see the soldering equipment too. Plumbing soldering equipment is not right for this repair.
20:19:12 From Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden to Miranda Mak(Privately) : Hi Miranda, you are next :)
20:19:37 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : The lithium cells are super flammable, you don’t want to stick your soldering iron onto that in the wrong way

I don't know, i dumpstered it. It's certainly in its current state at all times. I have looked up videos but i'm scared.
20:26:53 From Dany (Belgium) : Does it heat when you keep the button down?

20:27:34 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : He can measure the resistance when he holds it down.
20:27:48 From chris in berkeley CA : maybe magnet is not getting power
20:28:07 From VIRGINIA DURCAN : Miranda, I notice that you’re sewing a knit material. It’s stretchiness may be the cause. Have you tried sewing on a piece of cotton?
20:28:39 From Miranda Mak : yes and we weren't able to get any stitches
20:29:28 From Eider (xe, xem, xer(s) singular pronouns) : I am going to try to get into my laptop's camera to remove the water damage, i'll be back
20:31:01 From Cristina Caltagirone_Velarde, New Mexico, USA (Handheld Vacuum) : Be right back all, going to get my soldering iron in my barn!
20:31:14 From VIRGINIA DURCAN : Miranda— When you pull on the bobbin thread, does it unspool easily?do you know how to take out the bobbin and put it back in?

20:33:01 From Marylouise Lambert : Miranda- Is there a screw in the bobbin holder? You can try loosen that screw
20:33:09 From VIRGINIA DURCAN : Miranda—if the bobbin thread is super tight, do you have another bobbin you can try?
20:33:25 From chris in berkeley CA : okay, bobbin thread is a PROBLEM
20:33:33 From Miranda Mak : no other bobbin loaded w thread
20:33:52 From Miranda Mak : where would screw be located?
20:33:54 From chris in berkeley CA : fiind out
20:34:09 From chris in berkeley CA : why thread will not come out of bobbin
20:34:21 From VIRGINIA DURCAN : miranda—let’s look at manual on inserting and extracting the bobbin from the machine
20:34:28 From Frank Kaufman, Toronto Repair Café : There is a flat spring with a screw onn the bobbin, to adjust the tension. My feeling is that you have the bobbin threaded wrong
20:34:52 From Miranda Mak : there's a bobbin case
20:35:22 From Miranda Mak : I just removed the bobbin n case
20:35:26 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : Thats a better one that i have

20:58:25 From kami | Zero Waste Washington to Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden(Privately) : that was seeming to be the case in the toaster room… but narayan was indeed suggesting returning to the main room when they reached the limit of “consultation”

21:40:40 From Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden : 71.1
21:49:25 From chris in berkeley CA to Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden(Privately) : is the UNmute spacebar thing always functional. sometimes mine works and sometimes not
21:50:39 From Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden : CC - do you want to write in chat the advice too - the transcript will have the advice too
21:51:16 From Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden to chris in berkeley CA(Privately) : it only works for me if my mouse arrow is over the microphone function in zoom
21:52:54 From chris in berkeley CA to Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden(Privately) : thanks
21:55:04 From chris in berkeley CA : next step for Eider, test electromagnet with steel object while switch is routing power to it. BE CAREFUL
21:56:07 From CC Clark : The proof that you are sewing with a balanced stitch is when you have a light color bobbin thread and a contrasting color coming from the spool and you run a test seam you should not have the opposite color coming from their side so no light “dots” on the top and visa versa.
21:56:29 From Jessika, RC Lund/Malmö, Sweden to CC Clark(Privately) : thanks :)
21:56:47 From chris in berkeley CA : also use ammeter function of multimeter to chek current flow through magnet windings.
21:56:55 From Dany (Belgium) : Yeah Chris!
21:56:59 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : Sandeep, I’ll write it down here:

21:57:56 From Cristina Caltagirone_Velarde, New Mexico, USA (Handheld Vacuum) : Thank you everyone, this was really great! Wonderful to connect internationally.
21:57:57 From Olivier, Leuven (Belgium) : - if the fuse breaks without any other board connected, it is the POWER SUPPLY BOARD that is defective. It has a number on it. You can probably still find a replacement board on Ebay and fit it.
21:58:02 From Eider (xe/m/r singular pronouns) : helpppp
21:58:26 From Cristina Caltagirone_Velarde, New Mexico, USA (Handheld Vacuum) : By Peter thanks so much and LOVE the scraf and poster!

22:03:14 From Cristina Caltagirone_Velarde, New Mexico, USA (Handheld Vacuum) : This was really great, my first fix-it clinic
22:03:32 From Peter Mui Fixit Clinic Berkeley CA : You’re always welcome
22:03:33 From Cristina Caltagirone_Velarde, New Mexico, USA (Handheld Vacuum) : THANK YOU TANTAS GRACIAS A TODOS
